![]() The Blue Cross was founded in 1897 as an organisation committed to improving animal welfare. Today, our 11 adoption centres find loving new homes for more than 6,000 unwanted and abandoned companion animals (dogs, cats and small family pets) every year, giving them a new lease of life. The Blue Cross’s four animal hospitals, last year provided more than 90,000 free veterinary treatments (consultations, operations and diagnostic tests) for pets whose disadvantaged, elderly or disabled owners could not afford private veterinary fees. Our three equine centres take in and care for horses and ponies with health or behavioural problems and/or whose owners can no longer cope. After undergoing a programme of training or rehabilitation, equines are placed in carefully selected loan homes, where they can go on to live useful and purposeful lives. Currently, over 400 horses are owned by the charity with 320 on loan to approved homes. Website: www.bluecross.org.uk |
